Sydney week 2 – John Rodgers

Another week settling into Sydney, and it was a great one. I started the week by meeting with Tony Massaro, a Bucknell Alum in Sydney. His journey inspired me and how he ultimately ended up in Sydney. After that meeting, many of us went to the Sydney Harbor bar near the Sydney Opera House. Seeing the Bridge and Opera House while sipping on a Hugo Spritz was an unbelievable sight. There was a brief period of heavy rain, which cleared out the outside area, and when it stopped, I got beautiful pictures of the Opera House with a rainbow in the back and nobody in the way. I want to go back another time.

Later in the week, we went to Tamarama Beach to get a nice tan and swim. The UV was at a staggering 11, so I used adequate sun protection. I am slowly but surely getting tanner, which is exciting. Tamarama was a smaller beach with bigger waves, which was a plus for me. Going into the water was fun, but the waves were powerful, so we had to be careful. Someone almost drowned because of how strong the current was, so I have to be cautious from now on. Tamarama is another place I would like to return to.

After that, we went to Bondi Beach to get dinner and catch the sunset. The sunset was beautiful, and relaxing and enjoying the view was lovely. I ordered a pizza that I thought would be good, but it gave me a terrible stomachache, putting a wrench in my night. It seemed like everyone we walked past had frozen yogurt in their hands, which was pretty interesting to see. Maybe ill have to try it at some point.

This Sunday was Australia Day, comparable to America’s 4th of July. It was a big celebration the entire day. That night, many of us went on a party boat to watch the fireworks on the Sydney harbor. Seeing all the fireworks at night light up the harbor was cool. Most people get off the next day. Unfortunately, we still have class.
