Week 2 Blog

This past week was filled with fun and warm weather. It was the group’s first full week after being adjusted to the Australian time and weather. So far my two classes have been solid. Organizational behavior and business law. My apartment has developed a solid routine of classes and the beach (what a tough study abroad experience). This past week I got the chance to explore some of the other awesome beaches that Australia has to offer. On Saturday we went up to manly beach which is about 20 minutes north of where we were staying. During the day at the beach we experienced the local shops and summer culture of Australia. We also experienced two shark attack warnings which lead to the water being closed to swimmers for about 2.5 hours. While the water was closed, myself and my two roommates walked the beach and joined 3 Vietnamese men in a beach volleyball game. It was an awesome game and exemplifies the meaning of studying abroad and interacting with different cultures. After we recreated the top gun beach volleyball scene (not at all) we walked back to our spot on the beach and enjoyed the warm sunny and 80 degree day. Another part of my week was playing in a local pickup soccer game at Mckay Sports ground. After taking about 20 minutes to find my field at this huge sports complex, I finally found a game that I thought was my group but it turns out was just a few locals playing. Luckily a local club director was a part of our game and after about 45 minutes of playing I was able to have a nice conversation with him and it led to me getting invited to come back for tryouts next week. Overall it was a great week and I was very fortunate to be here when there is such nice weather. Happy Australia day!
