Week 3

This past week we were lucky enough to experience more fantastic summertime weather. My roommates and I looked to enjoy this beautiful weather by heading down to the Royal botanic garden of sydney. It was a majestic garden/preserved area right in downtown sydney which ran parallel to the to the harbor and bordered the Opera house. I really enjoyed seeing the various plants and wildlife the gardens had to offer. All except the giant spider I saw climbing from the top of the tree towards me. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture before it moved out of sight but it was about the size of my hand. All in all it was a great experience to see the combination of modern sydney as well the preserved nature all in one place.

Another great experience that took place this week was attending a Sydney FC soccer game. It was again perfect weather for the day and was a short 20 minute train ride to the stadium. Sydney FC were playing Adelaide FC and despite Adelaide being 2nd in the standings and Sydney being 7th, Sydney was able to best their opposition 4-1. Maybe it was beginner’s  luck but I think it was because my roommates and I along with the rest of the support section provided the squad with the much needed boost from our cheering and support. The stadium itself was well designed and modern having been completed in 2022. As I look to finish up my last week of block one classes I hope to continue to learn about Australian culture and see this part of the world first hand by experiencing as much as I possibly can. Cheers!
