Happy Super Bowl Sunday (Monday)! With last term’s classes wrapping up and finals behind us, all of my apartment mates and I were fortunate enough to have Monday off for the first time with our new class schedules. After a long and intense weekend of studying, finals, and a trip to a new city, the extra day off was exactly what we needed to recharge.

This weekend, we traveled to Melbourne and started with a walking tour of the city. We got to see some historic architecture, passing the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Gaol, where we also got a glimpse into the city’s convict history. We also explored the Royal Arcade, and checked out the street art in Chinatown. The Arts Centre, with its spire that resembles a tutu, was another highlight that I really enjoyed. I loved the dance and art history classed I’ve taken at Bucknell and learning about the history and purpose behind certain architecture during this tour was super interesting.
After the tour, we had the chance to roam the city on our own. A group of us made our way to the National Gallery of Victoria, and then spent some time wandering through the city streets. The freedom to plan our own activities was a nice change, and we ended up finding a few great spots.

One of the best parts of our time in Melbourne was the market we discovered. Compared to the one we visited last week, this one had way more thrifty pop-up shops, and I loved browsing through the vintage clothes and jewelry. We also found an amazing brunch spot, which gave us the perfect fuel for our day of exploring. Later, we went to an outdoor bar where we hung out, had drinks, and played knock, a really fun card game. We ended the trip with delicious gelato, and got to head back to sunny Sydney for a new week and a fresh start with new classes!
