This week is also full of new adventures and exciting content. A friend I met during my first week in Sydney who is originally from Serbia, like me but has lived in Sydney his whole life, invited me to a jiu-jitsu practice. He is a professional jiu-jitsu fighter and has successfully competed in multiple national-level competitions in Australia. To be honest, I was initially scared when he invited me. I had never tried any martial arts before, and I was nervous about performing poorly. However, the experience turned out to be incredibly enjoyable. The practice focused entirely on learning new levers and grips—an unusual starting point for a beginner like me, but I managed to pick up most of the techniques and put in a solid effort against much more experienced fighters. Most importantly, I had a great time, and I would definitely go back while I’m in Sydney.
On Sunday, GAV organized a private tour of the Sydney Opera House. It was a fantastic opportunity for our group of students to explore and learn about this iconic landmark. Not only just the view, but the story behind its construction, including the challenges it faced, makes this extraordinary piece of architecture even more special. All in all, one more week for the books.
