week 5

Week 5 was the start of new classes and another great week, minus some canceled flights.  Overall I had a great time and am excited for the next one.

This past weekend we were supposed to go to Tasmania which would have been great to do.  Unfortunately due to some suboptimal weather they canceled our flight.  This was super disappointing as we were very excited to go and see a new Australian environment, though apparently it rained hard the days we were supposed to be there, so maybe we dodged a bullet.  In place of this we took a tour of the Sydney Opera House.  Getting to see the inside was awesome, and learning the history of its interesting and almost disastrous construction was great.  The story goes that the original architect Jorn Utzen had a very specific image of what he wanted the building to look like, but that the construction of his exact version was impossible.  He was therefore asked to leave the project and never saw the finished building with his own eyes.

We also made it out to Camp Cove, a smaller beach spot in Sydney with some great views of the harbor and cliff jumping.  The cliff was about 30 feet high, and it was a thrill to jump.  The area of Watsons bay also seems like it would be a great place to live.  It was a quiet area with good food and lots of greenery.  Overall it was probably my favorite beach experience we have had so far and I am eager to return.
