Week 5 Blog – Blue Mountains and Opera House

This week was an extremely busy week for me. Firstly, on Tuesday, my parents flew in for a 5-day visit, expecting to see what Sydney is known for, and also what it is not necessarily known for. This past week, I took my parents out to Manly beach for a day, did the Coogee to Bondi walk, and went all around Sydney for dinners, such as the Iceberg, which is adjacent to Bondi Beach, the Helm, which is alongside Darling Harbour, and Sean’s Panorama, which is also right alongside Bondi Beach. Yet, the two most unforgettable moments I had this week, and potentially this entire trip, were hiking through the Blue Mountains and attending an Opera House performance. The Blue Mountains, which are located around two hours west of Bondi Junction, beholds one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. Standing on top of the mountains and veering to the vast landscape in front of me, it was surreal to see the blue haze that resides within the Blue Mountains. Yet, the cherry on top was a rainbow perched above Wentworth Falls, adding more beauty to the incredible landscape. Later that same day, as I previously mentioned, my parents and I attended a Max Richter performance in the Sydney Opera House. Though classical music is not necessarily my top choice, being within the walls of the Opera House was likewise a surreal experience. If I were to offer advice to anyone visiting their kids who are studying abroad in Sydney, I would highly suggest not only visiting the Blue Mountains, but to attend an Opera House performance.
