Week 6 Blog-Beaches and Barrels

Last weekend, we took an exciting trip to Hunter Valley and Newcastle. As someone who has been interested in wine and enjoys visiting vineyards, this was a trip I have been looking forward to. We kicked off the weekend on Saturday with a visit to Brokenwood Wines. Our sommelier, Henry took great care of us starting off with their signature Semillon wines, then Rosato and Shiraz, finishing the tasting course with some dessert wines. After tasting, my friends and I ordered extra glasses and sat outside enjoying the nice sunny weather. Next, we made our way to Ernest Hill, which was a boutique vineyard known for its single-vineyard wines. The tasting session was way more intimate with all of us in a private room. We headed to Newcastle for the night after a long day of wine tasting.

Sunday morning started off with a visit to Bogey Hole, which was a stunning natural ocean pool carved into the rocks right next to Newcastle beach. Even though we forgot to bring our bathing suits with us for the trip, we were still able to soak in the amazing view of the ocean and the beach walking around. Before heading back to Sydney, we made one last stop at Margan Wines. We went through a variety of red wines including Merlot, Barbera, Sangiovese, and Shiraz. Personally, this was my favorite out of the three wineries and had the best Australian Shiraz. This was a great way to wrap up our weekend and was an opportunity for me to learn more about Hunter Valley and Australian wines.
