Wineries

This past weekend we had an incredible Alumni sponsored opportunity to take a trip to Hunter Valley where we able to go to three wineries and learn how to propery taste different wines to truly experience all the different flavors of reds, whties, and rose.

Our first stop was at Brokenwood Winery where there were wines in a variety of different regions. We were split into two groups and sat at round tables with sommeliers that taught us how to taste the wine. After completing the weekend Im glad this tour was first as it was the only one that taught us how to swirl, sniff, and observe the color of the wine to immerse ourselves in the experience. This was also my first time drinking and enjoying red wine and I think I found it much more enjoayable when given the opportunity to truly appreciate the different flavors.

Our second winery was Ernest Hill where we sat in one big room together. At this location we got to try three dessert wines. I really enjoyed them and made sure to purchase a bottle to bring home to my parents. I also enjoyed how at this winery we learned about the company itself. Moreover how they rarely sell their products wholesale since they are often pre ordered so It was an incredibly rare opportunity to sample and purchase them.

Lastly, on Sunday we went to Margan Winery. This experience was very different then the others as we were all seated at a long table and it seemed much more formal then the previous two. We were also able to learn about how it was a family run company and more of the backgronud. In this experience we had much more time in between wines to formulate our own thoughts and process the flavors. I appreciate that this one was last. At that point in the weekend we had more expereicen then when we had just arrived making this winery perfect to be last becasue we could put our new skills to use.
