This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending time in Hamilton Island in the Whitsunday Islands with my parents and my aunt who arrived in Australia on Friday.
When we arrived after the about 3 hour flight we were ushered to the hotel via golf cart. The island itself only services about 4 flights a day in and out and golf cart or shuttle is the main form of transportation. The hotel sported amazing views of the crystal clear waters and surrounding islands. On the first day we were able to do a bit of exploration around the island seeing the main marina area with local shops and restaurants. We hit the pools and the Hamilton Island beach which uniquely had a super significant changes in tide depending on the time of day. Thus, when we arrived at about 4pm to the beach the tide had already gone very far out and created an almost sandbar effect.
On the second day in Hamilton Island we started our day by the pool enjoying the beautiful weather. From there we boarded a cruise to Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays. This beach truly lived up to its name as the super fine sand was so white that it nearly reflected the sun. Islands surrounded the beach which made for some epic views as we laid out and enjoyed another great day. For dinner we made it to Cuca Chu which served some unique dishes. One of the most was a Whitsunday’s chilli which was most similar to a lobster prepared with an Asian flare.
Finally, Sunday morning we woke up and were able to take a steep but short hike into the island to get a great view of the surrounding area. Hamilton Island was undeniably one of if not the prettiest place I’ve had the chance to go in Australia. I am looking forward to our final week of class this coming week and heading to Cairns.
