Week 8 – Goodbye Sydney, Hello Cairns

This week was another intense academic week. I had two papers due and a final exam to finish before leaving Sydney, and on top of that, I also had to pack up and get everything ready to go. Luckily, I was able to visit the Chinese market one more time before we left and get my nephew the souvenir I wanted to get for him. It was a koala plush with arms that could extend and retract. I also had an interview for my internship in New Zealand this week, and I got it! I’m excited to spend time working in the real world. After the busy week, we woke up early Saturday morning and took our group flight to Cairns.

It was a long and uncomfortable day, as planes always are, but eventually, we made it to Cairns and were able to get settled in our hotel. The hotel is nice, but it was hard adjusting to the heat. It is humid! Sunday was our first full day in Cairns, and we spent it snorkeling at the great barrier reef! I mostly kept my phone in my bag to avoid damaging it and didn’t get any good pictures or videos.

Today, Monday, we drove to a bunch of different hiking spots, waterfalls, and overlooks. It was a great time and I got to visit the river of healing, see a curtain fig tree, and sit under/behind a waterfall which is something I’ve never done before.
