Week 9 In Cairns – Jonah Pachman

This week, we wrapped up our spring break adventure in Cairns, Australia. This week was amazing, and provided me with an opportunity to experience the Great Barrier Reef, something I had wanted to see my entire life. Additionally, the city of Cairns was incredible, and I was not expecting the vast number of stores and restaurants it had to offer.

Spring Break

Starting off on Tuesday, we had the opportunity to visit Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, where we got to see a variety of different animals. It was super cool to see the professionals feed the Crocodiles and see the Koalas up close again. We got to see the Crocodile show at the end of the day, and that was super exciting. On Wednesday, we made our way over to Fitzroy Island. I got the opportunity to snorkel in some of the clearest water I have ever seen, and I even saw a sea turtle. The beaches were beautiful, and there was a ton of scenery for us to see. Once we got back, we spent the night exploring Cairns. Thursday was probably the most fun day of the trip, as a few of us went on a deep sea fishing day trip. Despite a little seasickness at the beginning, I had a great time fishing with friends out at sea. I caught one fish, which was unfortunately too small to keep. Afterward, we kept the fish that we caught and took them to a restaurant to have cooked, and they tasted amazing. The trout sashimi was incredible, unlike any other sashimi I had ever tried.

Arrival in Singapore

On Saturday, we made our way to Singapore, stopping in Papua New Guinea along the way. Upon arrival in Singapore, I was able to explore the Singapore airport, and we found the famous fountain that I had seen so many photos of before. On Sunday, we explored Singapore and found a Japanese market that had so many different food options for very cheap prices. The food so far in Singapore has been incredible, unlike any other food I have tried in America.

All in all, Cairns was an amazing and unforgettable experience, and I hope that I will be able to make it back at some point in the near future. However, I am super excited about my time in Singapore and hope that I will have a great experience here.
