This week I started my internship with UPS in Sydney. On my first day I arrived with another girl who will be working with me at UPS. We were greeted by Isaac, one of our supervisors who immediately acclimated us with the offices and some of his coworkers. From there, I got the chance to meet my direct supervisor, Joyce, who kindly greeted me and we had a conversation about what the internship would look like and what kind of experience I would like to get out of the program. The next couple of days were spent completing some onboarding tasks, visiting warehouses around Sydney, and meeting staff on the UPS team. Thus far, I have worked on some process efficiency improvement in the small package sorting system in the imports warehouse. I have also helped to organize the parcel tracking system that UPS uses internally which will hopefully make it easier to use.
This past weekend, I had a relatively chill weekend, but still managed to do one or two fun activities. One of these activities was taking the bus to Shark Bay and Vaucluse to see some super nice houses and visit the beaches. We managed to find an awesome rock jumping spot in Shark Bay where we spent the evening and saw a decent sunset. We also got the chance to go to a soccer game in Allianz stadium. The Australian National Team played Indonesia in one of their World Cup qualifying games. The Socceroos won 4-1 and sent the Indonesian fans home unhappy.
This past week I have also taken some time to organize my plans for the summer and some activities for later in the semester. Things like housing this summer, trips to see friends, and some logistics of late spring have taken some of my time away from me. I have also restarted training for the half marathon that some friends and I will be running our last weekend here in Sydney. Unfortunately though, in one of my first runs back I injured myself. This will certainly pose a challenge moving forward in my training, but I am sure I will be ready when the time comes to really race.
