Week 11 in Bali! – John Rodgers

Another week in Singapore has passed! This week, I have been preparing for a busy work week. The team is working on onboarding a new software, and I have been very involved. We are looking to onboard it by the end of next week, so there has been a lot of work going into data validation. It’s been fun getting to know my coworkers and working with them; they try to give me a lot of responsibility, which I appreciate. I also went to the giant mall next to our hotel for the first time, it took me two weeks to find it. There is every store you could imagine and a massive food court. I got a good wonton soup, which I will get a lot.

This weekend, a few of us went to Bali! I was super excited to go as I’ve heard many good things from other friends who have been. We got there Friday night and then went out to dinner. We hadn’t realized previously that there was a holiday on Saturday when everything was closed. We had to stay at the resort all day, which was fun and relaxing. We hung out by the pool bar for a while and met some Australians there. The good thing about this holiday was that we went to the beach and were the only ones there. We relaxed under the stars for a little then went to bed.

Sunday was one of the best days on the entire abroad trip. Jonah and I started early, getting a massage. We got a 2-hour massage for 60 bucks, which was a great deal. After that, Jonah told me that we could get on the back of a bike through the Grab app, so we had to try that. The traffic is crazy in Bali, so the benefit to the bikes is that they can weave through traffic, and they cost less than a dollar for a 15-minute ride. We decided to go to Sunday Beach Club in the southernmost part of the island. The walk down to the beach was beautiful, and the atmosphere was fantastic. After that, we went to Rock Bar for dinner, which was on top of a rock and overlooked the ocean. Then we returned to the hotel to Savaya, which is rated as the #1 Asian club. We took bikes there, of course, and this club was on top of a cliff. It was a super cool atmosphere, and I was glad to be there. Bali was an amazing experience with super friendly people; I highly recommend it.
