This week in Singapore brought a slower pace, but it was still full of meaningful learning experiences. After wrapping up the on-site audit last week, I transitioned to working more closely with the ESG team. It’s been refreshing to focus on something different and it exposed me to a different side of audit that emphasizes sustainability and long-term impact. My primary tasks included building flowcharts and doing some cross-referencing across multiple sustainability reports. Even though this was routine work, I found the work surprisingly insightful. Each company’s report told a different story; some focused on carbon and Greenhouse Gas emissions, and others with innovative employee wellness programs. Going through these documents helped me understand the importance of ESG disclosures and how companies are being held accountable not only for their profit.
Working on these projects also made me realize how important data visualization is in sustainability. The flowcharts I had to create were to simplify complex processes and make ESG efforts easier to understand for both clients and stakeholders. Unfortunately, towards the end of the week, I wasn’t feeling the best. Instead of exploring Singapore on Friday or Saturday, I decided to stay in and rest. While I was a little disappointed to miss the cooking class, I took the opportunity to learn more about Power BI. Since there is an ongoing project at work involving the software, I figured it was the perfect time for me to get used to the software. I logged on to my LinkedIn Learning and started experimenting with building dashboards. I had used Excel before, but Power BI opened up a whole new world of data visualization.
By Sunday, I was feeling a little better, so I took a short walk near the hotel. It was nice to just walk around the streets of Singapore after being in the hotel for a while. I ended my day at the Newton Hawker Center, where I treated myself to some pad Thai. Even though I didn’t have the most adventurous week, I still had the opportunity to explore ESG consulting and took the initiative in learning a new software.
