Week 13 Blog

At work this week, I had the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of climate-related financial disclosures. This topic is becoming more and more relevant in today’s corporate world. My main task this week was to draft two newsletters: one focusing on climate-related risks that companies face, and the other on the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) regulations and their effects on SGX-listed companies.

Researching and writing these newsletters taught me a lot about how regularly bodies are pushing for more transparency in how companies report on sustainability. I didn’t realize how detailed and structured these frameworks were until I started working on them. The TCFD, for example, encourages companies to assess how climate change might impact their operations and financial performance. What surprised me was how interconnected everything was. From environmental risks and financial disclosures, all the way to investor expectations.

It made me think about the future of business reporting and how companies will have to evolve to stay both compliant and build trust with their stakeholders. It was interesting to take these complex topics and break them down in Canva into something digestible for our audience. It also helped improve my research and writing skills, which are two things that will definitely stick with me after this internship at BDO.

After a fulfilling week of work, on Saturday night, we had some exciting activities planned. We started the night off by going to the Boat Quay next to the river and enjoyed the breeze and Indian food before heading over to a Steve Aoki concert. Aoki is an artist I have been looking forward to seeing for a long time and I couldn’t believe that he was performing in Singapore during our stay. The energy in the venue was electric and he delivered. It was a cool reminder that while I’m here on a professional journey, there is still so much joy to be found in the moments outside of work in Singapore.
