Week 14 in Asia Pacific

Back on track with the same agenda. A new week brought fresh attractions and places to explore. With so many activities packed in, writing each blog entry flows easily.

Starting with the least exciting part, work is moving along steadily. I continue completing tasks regularly. The real highlight, though, has been lunch breaks with my colleagues, who take me to a new spot almost every day. I’ve been able to try a wide variety of Asian cuisines, and this week’s standout was Vietnam’s famous dish pho, a flavorful beef noodle soup served with fresh herbs and garnishes.

On Thursday, a few friends and I went to the rooftop bar “Cé La Vi,” which offered stunning views of Marina Bay and the financial district. The jazz music was incredible, smooth, soulful, and full of energy. Even though the drinks were overpriced, the overall experience was totally worth it. The day before, some fellow Bucknellians met with Bucknell alumni living and working in Singapore. Sadly, I couldn’t join due to other commitments. From what I heard, they had an amazing time, and I really wish I could’ve been there.

To wrap up the week, we went on another adventure. On Friday morning, we took a one-hour ferry from Changi Ferry Terminal to Bintan, Indonesia. The moment we arrived at Nirwana Resort Complex, I felt like a kid in a candy store, palm trees, pools, beach bars, and a stunning beach all around. Honestly, I never get tired of beach settings. Every one I’ve visited this year has felt like paradise. Even though the resort offered a variety of activities, I was perfectly content just relaxing on a hammock, soaking up the sun, and unwinding by the beach bars. Still, I did join the group for a fun game of bowling.

Each evening, we explored great dinner spots. One night, we visited a nearby Indian restaurant called “Spice,” where I had chicken kebab in curry sauce, definitely the right choice. The following night, we had an organized dinner at “The Kelong Seafood Restaurant” by Lagoi Bay, where we enjoyed a wide range of Asian dishes. To top it off, we spent the rest of the night at a floating bar nearby.

All in all, this week reminded me once again that choosing this program was the right decision. It’s truly a life-changing experience. With less than three weeks left, I’m going to make every moment count.
