This week in Sydney was full of new people and more adventures. One exciting thing that I was able to do was go to my first Cricket game! I went with a few of the friends I met from Elon and WashU. It took a while for me to begin to understand the points system, but it wasn’t too challenging. The game is played in a similar way to baseball (this was my American evaluation) except there are two batters in the middle of a circle and the ball can be hit in any direction without it being a foul ball. After hitting the ball the batters have to run back and forth from their positions for points. This is a basic description based on the amount I was able to learn from one game.

This week we also met a Bucknell alumni who told us some of his stories. His stories were very impressive and it was great to hear about how someone who graduated from Bucknell ended up in Sydney. The alumni’s name was Tony Massaro, and he was an ROTC student, making his stories more interesting and impressive. The biggest takeaway from his talk with us was his take on networking; you should try to find similarities when meeting new people while still appreciating differences and never counting someone out because they are different.

This week I also found out that Chinatown has a huge market every Friday where there are many different food, souvenir, and clothing stands to shop from. The atmosphere was amazing with beautiful colors and lively people all around. I was able to try some pan-fried dumplings and beef kebabs. It was a great place to spend time with my friends and the food was so good.
