My weeks continue to get better and more interesting as time goes on. With no family here, I initially thought I might not be able to celebrate Chinese New Year like I usually do. However, I was pleasantly proven wrong. In Australia, the ambiance of Chinese New Year is very much alive. I was surprised by the number of festivals and performances in Chinatown and some malls that reminded me of home!
Before coming to Australia, I expected it to be more like the US with its dominant Western culture, but I was wrong. Australia is incredibly diverse, and there’s a real effort to ensure that this diversity is celebrated. The lion dancing, local performances, and traditional Chinese-themed dances have been fascinating to watch. The cultural dynamics in Sydney are truly amazing.

The Sydney Fish Market has also become one of my favorite destinations because of how fresh the seafood is and how well-maintained the market is. I never imagined I would find such a fish market here, but it truly exceeded my expectations. The oysters are incredibly fresh, the salmon sashimi is perfectly cut and clean, and the grilled seafood is especially impressive. They really know how to create delicious and hygiene dishes.
