Week 5: New Set of Classes

For this week, everyone is starting their new set of classes. For me, I am going to be learning about contemporary politics in Asia for one and about Australian life and culture for another. These classes have been interesting so far as I have already started working on two presentations for these classes, but I would not say that I do not like these classes.

For my contemporary politics class, it has been nice learning about the complex history of the Asian pacific countries and their politics. Currently I am making a presentation with 2 of my classmates on the history and cultural significance of Korean fried chicken since it has recently become a very popular food in America. Hopefully the presentation goes well but it has been nice learning about the region that I will be in soon.

In my other class, I am learning about the history and life of Australia. This last week, we learned about the Aboriginals, the natives of Australia before the British came to colonize it. This week was especially intriguing as some of my classmates and I had the obligation of creating a 40-minute presentation about their history and the abuse they received since the British came. While I won’t go into too much detail about it, their history is very similar to the history of the Native Americans and how the British treated them when they came to colonize America.

On Sunday, we went to tour the Opera House. I thought the Opera House was only used for classical plays, so I was very shocked when I saw that there was a Dungeons and Dragons performance there as well for the next month or so. I know now what event I will be going to this week. After the tour, some of my friends and I decided to tour around one of the contemporary art museums and the botanical gardens near the Opera House. It was a very beautiful area and it was nice to explore the nature of Australia for once.

(p.s. Bianca gave me chocolate for Valentines Day, thank u Bianca :))
