Week 10 in Singapore/Thailand – John Rodgers

It’s been my first week in Singapore, and it’s been nice. I’ve been enjoying my time working as an FP&A intern at Circles. The company has been very welcoming to me and the other interns. One thing I like about Circles is their commitment to getting me involved. On the first day, I was already working on validating financial data to upload to FP&A software. My manager is also very laid back, which is different from the expectations of a Singaporean manager. I look forward to getting more hands-on with actual financial analysis.

Jonah and I went to Phuket, Thailand, this weekend, which I was excited about. We arrived late Friday night, but the airport was an hour’s drive away. We finally reached Phuket around 11 PM and decided to hit the town. We went to an Irish bar in Thailand and got a Guinness, which I found funny because it was my first drink. Our hotel was nice, and we went to bed late and had to get up early for a boat tour of the Phi Phi Islands.

Phuket nightlife

On Saturday, we woke up around 7:30 to go on a Phi Phi Islands boat tour. It was a harsh wake-up after arriving late, but we made it. We got on a speedboat, which took us to the islands, and it was an unbelievable sight. The water was so clear, and the cliffs all around looked unreal. We could jump in the water and explore all the caves, which was fun. Then we went to several other islands, one being the Monkey Island. Usually, you’re allowed to go onto the beach, but it was high tide, so we had to see the monkeys from the boat. The beaches were all super beautiful, and I am so grateful to have seen them in person. Later that night, we checked out a local food market in the city. I got a rolled ice cream, which was good. Overall, we had a great time in Thailand, I definitely recommend it.
