Week 11 in Asia Pacific

This week, like every other so far, provided great content to write about, making my writing both easy and enjoyable. I’m confident that my writing skills will significantly improve by the end of this semester. The weekdays felt a bit monotonous, with the usual work routine, which reminded me of the kind of life I’ll lead after I graduate. However, that’s one of the many benefits of this program, beyond the invaluable educational and travel experiences, we also gain real-world work experience, especially by working abroad in different environments that push us to mature and adapt more quickly.

Since I’ve already seen most of the major sights in Singapore, I decided to spend an extended weekend (thanks to a national holiday on Monday, March 31st) outside the city. Being in Southeast Asia presented a perfect opportunity to explore and experience the rich cultures of nearby countries. This time, I chose Thailand. A few weeks ago, when I was planning this trip with a friend, we were torn between visiting Bangkok or Phuket. Luckily, we opted for Phuket, avoiding the earthquake that hit Bangkok this past weekend.

We had an unforgettable weekend in Phuket, three days full of amazing experiences. On the first day, we went on a boat tour, spending the entire day exploring stunning bays, coves, and national parks. The highlight was Ao Phang Nga National Park, which features the striking limestone tower karst islands of the Strait of Malacca.

On the second day, we explored Phuket City. Since we were staying near Patong Beach, we decided to visit the famous Freedom Beach and Patong Beach. The most memorable part of the day was enjoying breakfast at a viewpoint overlooking Patong Beach and sipping afternoon drinks while watching the sunset from the beach.

The final day was a bit more relaxed, with some time spent lounging by the pool to rest up for the tiring travel ahead. We had to catch an early flight the next morning, followed by another flight.

All in all, it was another week full of stories, and I’m excited for what the coming weeks will bring.
