Week 5

This week I continued to explore Singapore with my roommates.  This city continues to amaze me and I am having the best time exploring not only this city but this part of the world, which had previously seemed so inaccessible to me.

My roommates and I are beginning to plan some last minute trips to places we want to see before we head back stateside.  The great thing about Singapore’s central location is that flights to many places nearby are relatively cheap.  For example, we are beginning to plan our big trip to Japan!  My employer was generous enough to let me have a couple days off to make the trip worth it which I am very grateful for.  We plan on spending 5 days in Kyoto. Read week 15 when it comes out for an update.

In other news this weekend, my friends and I went to see one of our favorite performers at a club.  The performer’s name is Steve Aoki and he is a famous DJ most well known for throwing full sized cakes at the audience.  Unfortunately, the venue specifically banned him from such actions which was disappointing but otherwise it was still a great experience.

Before the venue we also went to the casino!  It’s always interesting to see what casinos in different parts of the world look like, different games get played in most countries, and each element says a little bit about local cultural standards and norms.  Decorations for example can indicate what might be significant in terms of luck or fortune to a culture.

Finally on a less positive note, our apartment air conditioning just broke.  This is a minor setback considering the temp is on average around 85 degrees here.  It should be fixed by tomorrow evening so WE WILL SURVIVE, it’s just something which has recently come up and I figured was worth sharing.

Can’t wait for the next few weeks!
