One of my favorite sayings is that time flies when you are having fun. The last 14 weeks have definitely been flying by and it feels bizarre that this is the final blog. It seems like just yesterday I was bouldering across the rocks on Bondi beach, looking out into the long stretch of sand filled with playful energy. Because this is the last blog, I wanted to reflect on my key takeaways from each location. Living in Sydney for 8 weeks was a dream come true. Sydney has everything I look for in a city. Whether it be the gorgeous views from the Bondi to Coogee beach walk or the stunning structures such as the Opera House, there is aesthetic appeal for those who are intrigued by both nature and architecture. However, what stood out to me the most about Sydney was the people. The culture in Sydney can only be described as pleasant. There is a constant and relentless need to help others, resulting in an infectious spread of optimism through the city. The citizens treat everyone as friends and this allows for a very safe and joyful environment. One of my favorite aspects about the people of Sydney was how active everybody is. People take immense amounts of pride in their physical well being to the point where I believe it adds life to the city. People are always taking advantage of the ocean and it is rare to see a surf board less beach. Additionally, anytime I left my apartment there was always a friendly competition or someone running. I think the small things are important and everybody in Sydney putting in the extra effort to make the city active and friendly, goes a long way in making Sydney one of the best cities on the planet.

I think it is rare to find two cities that are far different from one another, yet, still enjoy both. In my personal experience, this scenario fits Sydney and Singapore perfectly. They both have extremely safe and comfortable environments. Furthermore, both cities have outstanding structures. Where Sydney and Singapore differ is the strengths of the city. Different from Sydney, Singapore takes immense pride in their diversity as well as being a quality work environment. Everything in Singapore is fast and efficient similar to a well operated business. The language, food scene, and public trasnporatation are all designed to improve the functionality of the city. Additionally, Singapore has effectively utilized technology to make day to day operations for the citizens simpler. Where Singapore further manages to improve its standing with respect to Sydney is the cuisine. Being able to get a fast, healthy, and filling meal for less than $10 USD is something that was previously unheard of to me. Singapore has some of the best restaurants I have ever been to and their items were sold at low prices. In terms of physical well being and focus on hobbies, Sydney has the advantage over Singapore. In terms of architecture and food, I think Singapore has the advantage over Sydney. Both cities specialize in unique fields and are both world class with respect to the focal points of the places. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to be apart of this program and there is not a single thing I would have changed.
