Cairns: An Experience Like No Other

On Saturday the 8th of March, the Bucknell group hopped on a plane, marking our last day in Sydney. Although the sad goodbye, this marked the first day of our amazing trip in Cairns. On our first full day, Sunday, GAV took our group on a day tour of the Great Barrier Reef. Here I was able to snorkel and scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef, a mind-blowing experience. My diving group was able to see an amazing array of fishes, a shark and many different coral types. Some examples include, a 3-foot Reef Shark, Parrot Fish, Stingrays and […]

Sydney Opera House: Simone Young Conducting Muhler’s Third Symphony

This week in Australia, me and my friends made our way to a wonderful Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. Simone Young conducted Mahler’s Third Symphony and although I was hesitant going into this symphony, I was very glad I attended and I enjoyed this experience even more than I could ever imagine. Not only was the architecture of the main concert hall amazingly beautiful, but I found the music just as amazing. The impressive performance from the main trumpet player and the impressive solo from the individual violin player captured my attention the most. Not only were these two […]

An Adventure to Hunter Valley!

This week’s adventure in the Hunter Valley was nothing short of transformative. The region, celebrated for its thriving wine culture, offered so much more than just exceptional vintages, it revealed layers of Australian heritage and a deep connection with nature. At Margan, Broken Wood, and Earnest Hill, each winery unfolded a unique story. Wandering through the sprawling vineyards, I witnessed firsthand how the Australian climate and soil infuse the wines with distinctive character. Every tasting was not only a lesson in winemaking but also a glimpse into the dedication and passion of the local vintners. These experiences highlighted how tradition […]

When Plans Change: Finding Adventure in Sydney

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned while studying abroad in Australia is that things don’t always go as planned—but sometimes, that’s for the best. This week, my highly anticipated trip to Tasmania was canceled due to an air traffic control shortage. At first, it was disappointing to miss out on the adventure we had mapped out. But, as it turned out, the setback gave us an opportunity to embrace the spontaneity of life in Australia and experience more of Sydney’s culture in an unexpected way. Making the Most of a Change in Plans Had we gone to Tasmania, we […]

Melbourne!

Week 4 brought us to the capital city of Australia, Melbourne. On the first day in Melbourne, we went on a walking tour around the central business district, learning interesting history and seeing beautiful sight like the exhibition center. One specific interesting piece of history was the story of The Kelly Gang. This interesting history featuring a bank robbing gang, metal armor, and Melbourne ideals of life were all very interesting and insightful about the city. On our second day, my friends and I took the time to find a nice breakfast spot hidden within an alley way near the […]

Roll Racing Sydney!

This Friday, Owen and I made it out to Eastern Creek Raceway where we attended Roll Racing Australia’s first roll racing event of the year. As avid car enthusiasts from the United States we were egar to experience the highly regarded car culture down under. Unbeknownst to most, car culture within Australia may even run deeper than in America. From the Bush to Sydney, from burnouts to supercars, Australia has one of the most diverse and interesting car cultures in the world. American influence is not the only thing which has shaped Aussie car culture, but a strong Japanese influence […]
