Week 9 in Singapore – John Rodgers

Continuing from spring break in Cairns, we had some great times there. We went to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure on Tuesday, a massive zoo. We took a boat through the swamp to see all the crocodiles, which was awesome. There were also koalas and kangaroos, which I was happy to see. After exploring the rest of the area, I saw a crocodile show where a guy was getting close to a crocodile. The day after that, we went to Fitzroy Island. It was an island near the Great Barrier Reef with beautiful beaches. It was a bit rainy but still a […]

Last week in Sydney – John Rodgers

It’s wild that I have already spent 8 weeks in Sydney. It’s been fun in Sydney, but I am excited to go to Cairns and Singapore. I spent my last week in Sydney working on papers and finishing my courses. I also made sure to go to my favorite food spots before I left for good. I got more spicy Chinese noodles and some ramen. I was supposed to attend the Drake concert on Friday, but unfortunately, he canceled the show. With this change of plans on our last day in Sydney, Jonah and I decided to see the sunset […]

Week 7 in New Zealand?! – John Rodgers

Another week in Sydney, but a weekend in New Zealand! Matt, Jonah, and I went to Christchurch, New Zealand this weekend. We arrived late on Friday, around midnight, and checked into our Airbnb. We decided to order DoorDash and found it was cheap. Matt and I ordered from this chicken place, and it was only 9 USD with delivery and everything, which is unheard of in the US. Saturday, we had a chance to explore the city, and we did so by grabbing lunch at the Church Pub. It was a restaurant that used to be a church, and I […]

Week 6 in Sydney – John Rodgers

Another week in Sydney, and it has been another great week! This week has been pretty much like the other weeks. I recently presented about wasabi’s history and cultural significance, which was fun to research. Something interesting about wasabi is that most wasabi outside of Japan is fake; it’s made chiefly of horseradish. It was a cool experience to dive deeper into a random food item and learn about its history and cultural significance. This Friday, my roommates and I decided to go to the Chinese market in Chinatown. I was excited to see the market as one of my […]

Week 5 in Sydney – John Rodgers

This week was a great week, and I decided to explore Sydney more. Starting Wednesday morning, I got up early and ran to Bronte Beach to watch the sunrise. I also bought an action camera to document my experiences. I woke up at 5:45 and ran 3 miles, even though I’m not a great runner, and I made it in time for the sunrise. It was popping early in the morning, which I love about Sydney. Everyone was always taking in the beauty of the beaches, and there was even a workout class. Sunrise at Bronte Beach On Saturday, Jonah […]

Week 4 in Melbourne – John Rodgers

I’ve made it halfway through my time in Sydney and finished my first two classes already. It’s wild how quickly these classes go by, but now I am ready to start my next block of classes. This was an eventful week, as I was finishing up my finals for my classes, and we were about to go to Melbourne for the weekend. We got into Melbourne around 11:30 on Friday, and I hadn’t eaten dinner yet; Melbourne had one of my favorite chicken places that aren’t in the US, Nando’s. It was so good I ended up getting it twice […]
