Never Say Never

For my last week in Sydney I wanted to hit all of my personal favorite spots. Tuesday I went on a run around the park. I also got an apple croissant from the Terrace before class and I still dream about this croissant. The perfect gooey baked apple center with brown sugar on top. Then, to top it off, we went to ArmsLength like we do every Tuesday for our last pasta and wine special. I wanted to be surprised for this most special meal, so I asked my friends to keep the pasta special for the month a secret. […]

Just a Bit of a Hike!

As we are getting into our last week here, I am starting to learn the city just as we are leaving☹️. I’m able to get to some places without needing google maps (or a million screenshots of google maps because I didn’t have data haha) and I finally feel pretty confident in my knowledge of Sydney. A random lady on the street even asked me for directions today, so I’m basically a local now. During the school week highlights included getting dumplings in ChinaTown with Maddie and Stella, as well as being dropped off around ChinaTown (ironic) after ubering from […]

Winery Weekend

This weekend we had the privilege of visiting 3 wineries north of Sydney. After eating lunch in Wollombi, a charming town on our way to the vineyards, we made it first to Brokenwood Winery where we got our first intro to wine-tasting. A very charismatic sommelier educated us on how to properly taste the wine. I found it really interesting that mine and Maddie’s opinions on the wine were drastically different, and my favorite was one of her least favorites. Apparently I have a taste for more aged wines. We then went to a quaint, family-run winery called Ernest Hill […]

Break the Routine

This week was a change of pace. My new (and arguably more convenient) class schedule, moving from business classes to classes that are more focused on learning about Australia and the Asia Pacific is a change in tempo. Learning through experience is the best way to learn, so our teacher brought us to the Thai food market when class ended early, where she strolled around schooling us on foods that were completely unrecognizable. The food was all super foreign and a bit disorienting to not see all the familiar food that is typically in grocery stores. I even get overwhelmed […]

Melbourne!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday (Monday)! With last term’s classes wrapping up and finals behind us, all of my apartment mates and I were fortunate enough to have Monday off for the first time with our new class schedules. After a long and intense weekend of studying, finals, and a trip to a new city, the extra day off was exactly what we needed to recharge. This weekend, we traveled to Melbourne and started with a walking tour of the city. We got to see some historic architecture, passing the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Gaol, where we also got […]

Finding Favorites

From an airplane window, the weaving neighborhood streets resemble the intricate pathways of a brain. The winding, branching routes that mirror the complex network of neural connections remind me of different systems, as big as the Earth and as small as a neuron in a brain. From the high balcony of the apartment, I can see the same two tiny televisions in the same two houses down below every night, glowing like distant beacons, always on until past midnight. Even from this distance, it makes me think of my family, one of our favorite things to do watching a movie, […]
