Australia and First Impressions of Singapore – Week 9

For spring break students were treated to a vacation in Cairns. We were there for six adventure filled days. The trip involved going to Hartleys Crocodile Farm, exploring Trinity Beach, and seeing waterfalls in the area. All of these adventures were extremely exciting, however, the one I found most exciting was scuba diving. This was the first day I was able to put my scuba certification to good use. In my first certified dive, I had the opportunity to explore one of the best dive sites along the Great Barrier Reef. What amazed me the most about the dive was […]

Australia – Week 8

This week in Sydney was our last. Saying goodbye to friends and to the city that I have had the pleasure of exploring was challenging. Because this was the last week in Sydney and also a journey unlike anything I have ever been on, I wanted to dedicate this blog to my key takeaways from my time spent in the city. What stood out to me the most was how unique of an atmosphere Sydney has. Not only is it outstanding in terms of the weather and food, the people in the city display traits that I have not seen […]

Australia – Week 7

A couple of weeks ago when me and my friends drove up to Royal National park we came to a series of realizations. The first being that the steering wheel being on the right side of the vehicle is preposterous. The second and far more important conclusion was the fact that it was incredibly easy to rent a car. The domino effect of this conversation was that we decided to do a road trip to Byron Bay. We steadily formulated a trip itinerary and this weekend, we went on the trip. Balancing the trip around everyone’s course schedule was challenging […]

Australia – Week 6

If someone told me one year ago today that I would be living in Sydney getting scuba certified, I would have looked them in the eyes and called them insane. Over the last two weeks, I have been putting a large amount of effort into getting certified.  The first seven days of achieving certification were, to say the least, painful. In order to achieve open water diving certification you must first pass an online course. This course took around 10 hours to complete. Once the online course was completed, I was required to do a training dive at a pool […]

Australia – Week 5

Reflecting on the week, the main underlying themes were ‘new’ and ‘spontaneous’. New courses, new schedule, new places, new faces, new experiences, the list goes on. It feels like a month ago but the week started with some poor decisions. Even though they were poor, I would have made the same exact choice if I was in the situation again. For the first time in my life, the superbowl fell on a Monday. Me and my friends bought tickets to this restaurant that had what appeared to be the opportunity of a lifetime. The main perk to purchasing a ticket […]

Australia – Week 4

This week was centered around completing my Business Law and Financial Decision Modeling courses on a high note. I experimented with setting while doing school work this week. I worked from my apartment, various rooms at UTS, and also explored different cafes by Bondi beach. My personal favorite out of those options was working from cafes in Bondi. In order to maximize the day, I would bring all of the beach equipment I would need as well as my study materials. On Friday, I had a take home exam in Business Law and believed it would be best to separate […]
