Week 8 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

Goodbye Sydney During the final week studying in Sydney, Australia, we wrapped up classes and said goodbye to the place we called home for the past two months. At first, the idea of studying in Sydney was daunting, but now I never wanted to leave. Sydney had an amazing atmosphere that combined so many cultures; and mixed with the beach and the city, Sydney is easily one of my favorite cities in the world. On Saturday morning, we traveled to Cairns, a city in Queensland, for spring break. During the short two days we have been here, we have gone […]

Week 7 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

Christchurch and Queenstown, New Zealand This weekend, we took a trip to the South Island of New Zealand to explore the mountains and the culture. On Saturday, we walked around Christchurch, took the gondola ride, and went to Sumner Beach. The town of Christchurch was beautiful, having a combination of both a modern and rustic feel. We started the day by eating lunch at the oldest church in Christchurch. We then traveled across town to the gondola ride, which gave us spectacular views of Lyttleton Harbour. Lyttleton Harbour was beautiful, and the weather made the view even more incredible. After […]

Week 6 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

Hunter Valley Wine Tours This weekend, Bucknell students had the opportunity to participate in wine tours in the Hunter Valley region of Australia, which is one of the most prominent regions of wine creation in the country. During these tours, we learned about the history of three different wineries and tasted various wines. Some of my favorites included the Shiraz and the Semillon varieties. I was very interested in the time and effort that it took to create and the backstory behind each wine. It was also intriguing to learn about what type of food each wine complimented the most. […]

Week 5 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

Starting New Classes During this week, we started our new classes for the second half of our time in Sydney, Australia. One of the classes, Aussie Life and Culture, I found particularly interesting after learning about the origins of Australia and the people that first settled here. We learned that the Aboriginal people were taken away by the British settlers that came to Australia, thus why there is a “Stolen Generation.” Reflecting back on my time here, I remember going to celebrate Australia Day, which is a national holiday to celebrate the First Fleet of 1788 that came to Australia […]

Week 4 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

As we come to the halfway point during our stay in Sydney, Australia, I wanted to reflect on these past few weeks and share some of the experiences from this week. Over the past four weeks, we finished two courses, and it feels like the time is flying by. Weekend Trip to Melbourne, Australia This past weekend, we took a group trip to Melbourne, Australia, where we did a walking tour to learn about the history of the city and walked around the city to explore for ourselves. Melbourne was different from Sydney in my eyes. Melbourne struck me as […]

Week 3 in Sydney, Australia – Matthew Lee

After adjusting to living in Sydney, Australia for a couple weeks now, I have been able to experience so many new cultures and see a lot of different places. However, the weeks are flying by here, as we are almost done with the first half classes. Some of my highlights from this week include seeing the Murray Rose Pool in the morning, visiting the Chinese Garden of Friendship, eating at Spice Alley, and watching the sunset from the Hornby Lighthouse. Murray Rose Pool, Double Bay, NSW, Australia First, I wanted to talk about seeing the Murray Rose Pool. I decided […]
