Easter weekend in Aotearoa

Kia ora! This week I wanted to share a little bit about what it’s like being across the world for Easter. I’m not from a super religious family, we used to go to church a lot more than we do now, but it’s interesting to me to see how seriously holidays like Easter are taken here. Since they value work-life balance so much here, almost every store was closed besides essential shops like dairies (convenience stores) and many restaurants all weekend (and I got off work on Friday and Monday!) Even with so many things closed (and the rain almost […]

Going “home” for the weekend

This weekend I was blessed to be able to return to Sydney, my favorite place in the world (that I’ve been to so far). My family was coming over to this side of the world to visit me for the next few weeks, not wanting to travel so far without seeing Australia, so they planned to fly into there. My dad and I secretly booked a flight for me to meet up with them in Sydney for the weekend, and they are joining me in Auckland for the remainder of their trip. The intention was for me to surprise my […]

SnackaChangi, Whittakers, Shapes

One thing about me is I love to eat. I guess you could call me a foodie. It has been quite jarring to go to the grocery store and see mostly unfamiliar brands. I was able to track down some mini packs of Goldfish at Woolworth’s the other day and nearly cried (my favorite snack at home). When I was asked to do a big snack order for the team at work one day, I was completely lost. However, asking a coworker for help sparked a fun, lively conversation about the best NZ snack brands and got us talking about […]

I ate an ant.

I’m gonna keep you on your toes for a little bit about what this week’s title means. Stick around til the end to find out… NZME Exhibition I was lucky enough to start off my 8 week internship at NZME right in the middle of some of my team’s busiest weeks of the year: prepping for their annual Exhibition! I should probably explain what NZME is before getting into it. New Zealand Media & Entertainment is the largest integrated media company in the country, and while I had thought I wanted to work somewhere small, it is so unexplainably cool […]

Nearly getting stranded in Piha

Kia ora from New Zealand! I’ve been feeling all the feels since I got here and it’s only been a week. I miss my friends who went to Singapore loads and at first it was a difficult adjustment. Mae, my roommate here, was fortunate to be able to take a trip to the South Island for most of the week so I found myself alone a lot of the week. My internship at New Zealand Media & Entertainment (NZME) has been absolutely amazing so far- my coworkers are all super helpful, welcoming, and fun (some of them are basically my […]

Moments in Queensland/A minor crash out

GBR I had the a good time snorkeling even though I presently have no photo evidence…pics from my disposable waterproof camera pending… All day I couldn’t stop thinking about Finding Nemo! I saw clownfish, the black and white fish with the scar, but sadly no turtles. My favorite fish of the day was a parrotfish. However, there was something seriously constricting about wearing a snorkel, mask, life jacket, and skin-tight lycra suit. My stuffy nose and the mask did not mix well. I also somehow got a lovely tanline from the flippers. I cannot even imagine scuba diving. I don’t […]
