This past week in Sydney was full of live music and a little bit of brainpower. One of the highlights was catching an Australian surf rock band called Rum Jungle in concert. Their sound was laid-back yet punchy and created a coastal energy and indie sound. What stood out was how uniquely Australian their vibe was. There’s a rawness and casual confidence in Aussie surf rock that feels more relaxed than the polished edge often found in American indie or rock bands. It’s less about being flashy and more about capturing a mood — warm nights, salty air, and not […]
This past weekend was packed with fun and lots of adrenaline. It started with a relaxed cookout at Coogee Beach, where the beachside barbecue vibes and the amazing view made for the perfect Friday evening. The Aussie beach culture really stood out—public BBQs are everywhere, and people actually use them. It’s such a laid-back, communal vibe compared to the U.S., where grilling often feels like more of a delivery system of a meal. At Coogee, the mix of locals and travelers sharing the space gave it a welcoming, community-driven feel that’s uniquely Australian. Saturday brought the action with an early […]
Getting to visit Queenstown was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my time so far abroad. The variety of scenery and activities that were available to us were a great change from the Sydney metropolitan area. On the first day we arrived we rented a car and traveled around the town getting to see some awesome views of the lake on Bob’s Cope. The breathtaking views in combination with the serenity of the area was exactly what I was looking for after spending the past couple months in Sydney. The wildlife there and their passion for exploration is clearly an […]
This past week the weather was a seriously limiting factor to our weekends and our time spent exploring areas. As a result, this blog post will mostly focus on my time working at UPS and what I have been able to take away from the work that I have completed and the people I have met. These past weeks I have been working with UPS in order to help maximize the efficiency of the Package delivery notification processes and the information system they use to organize the notification of deliveries. In order to do so, I have worked with members […]
This week I started my internship with UPS in Sydney. On my first day I arrived with another girl who will be working with me at UPS. We were greeted by Isaac, one of our supervisors who immediately acclimated us with the offices and some of his coworkers. From there, I got the chance to meet my direct supervisor, Joyce, who kindly greeted me and we had a conversation about what the internship would look like and what kind of experience I would like to get out of the program. The next couple of days were spent completing some onboarding […]
