Week 3 in New Zealand

This week marked the third week of my internship, and, like the previous ones, I was assigned new tasks, which gave me more responsibility and provided new opportunities to learn. Last week, the CFO, the man directly in charge of the accounting department, asked me if there were any other parts of the company that I would like to gain experience in. I told him that I was interested in learning more about the legal and compliance department, so this week I was able to do some work with them. On my first day working with them, I went to the company’s car lot to do an audit on the cars, making sure that every car that was on file was on the lot. This was a fairly easy task but then I started a new task. I’m going through a watchlist of criminals who have names similar to those of our customers and verifying that it is not them. I usually start the day off with accounting work, like reconciliations and invoices, and then go into compliance work. Everything that I have been learning so far feels like it will be very useful in the future.

After work each day, I try to go to the gym. I made it four days this week, Thursday being the only day I didn’t go so that I could make our catch-up dinner. Saturday, we went to Waiheke Island and rode around the island on e-bikes. The island was beautiful and while riding around I was able to get a bunch of great pictures.

I even went down a bird sanctuary path in the woods and I got to see some birds. Even though I couldn’t get pictures of all of them, I got pictures of a couple.

This week I learned and saw a lot, and I’m excited to see what happens in the week to come.
