Sitting out in the sun

This week has been one of the best yet. I have an interview next week with a big accounting firm, and I crushed an interview on Friday. Hoping that I hear back form my interviews soon so I can stop stressing out about my summer.

On Wednesday, I wandered into a shopping mall and unexpectedly stumbled upon a keyboard store selling all kinds of novelty mechanical keyboards. I’ve been searching for something memorable to take home from this trip, and I finally settled on a wooden mechanical keyboard with a cool design. The keys aren’t too clicky or loud, and they have a smooth, satisfying feel with each press. I brought it into work the other day, and it’s a huge upgrade from the office keyboard I’ve been using. It was 30% off, the best bargain I’ve found so far.

Of course, no week is complete without good food. I’ve been craving real ramen, the non-instant kind, so I hunted down a cozy little spot in Raffles Place that serves incredible black garlic ramen. Even though the dish was topped with a large spoonful of garlic, it wasn’t too strong. I think it blended perfectly with the broth. It was so good that I ended up ordering an extra serving of noodles for my soup. It ended up costing only $13.

But that wasn’t the end of nice food I’ve had this week. I decided to go all out this week and checked out a Michelin recommended restaurant near my office in Lavender. They served some of the best nasi lemak I’ve ever had. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy, but the sambal was a bit too spicy for me. My coworkers warned me not to mix in all the sambal at once, but I didn’t listen. Safe to say, I learned my lesson. Despite the spice, the dish was great. Simple yet incredibly balanced in flavor.

The weekend, though, was the highlight of the week. Bintan Island was nothing short of amazing. I had the chance to lounge on the beach and soak up the sun, and the weather was perfect, not too humid, which was a pleasant surprise. The moment I stepped onto the sand and saw the crystal clear blue water which reminded me of Australia. I could feel all my built-up stress melt away. Dylan and I tried kayaking, but let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. We lost balance a couple of times and spent a solid 20 minutes trying to flip the kayak back over. Not exactly the smoothest adventure, but definitely one to remember. At least I now know that my balance isn’t the best. After that, I just stuck to the beach and enjoyed some extra tanning time.

Overall, this week had a mix of good news, good food, and a chance for me to wind back and enjoy the moment.
