Week 9 – Spring Break in Cairns and Returning to Sydney

This past week we had the rest of our Spring Break trip to Cairns and it was filled with some awesome and unforgettable adventures. One of these was snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. Getting to dive down and see the fish was amazing and seeing the vibrant and colorful coral was a breathtaking sight. The coolest part was that we were able to get a great day weather-wise and the visibility was pretty high under the water’s surface. In combination with the fact that we were able to visit three different spots it was a boat trip to remember.

Another day we had the opportunity to adventure out to Fitzroy Island and explore. Some friends and I completed a hike up the mountain on the island and the view from the top was completely breathtaking. After our hike up, we went down to the main bar on the island and ate lunch with a pint and relaxed. The snorkeling at Fitzroy Island was also amazing as we were able to see turtles, sharks, and sting rays. That night we got to adventure around the town of Cairns more via double-decker party bus. Our pub crawl sent us all over the popular spots downtown and it was great to see the city.

Finally, on Thursday, some friends and I decided that Spring Break would be the perfect time to get out of our comfort zones and try skydiving for the first time. The anticipation of jumping out of the plane was by far the worst part. Leaping out of the plane at 15,000 feet was an unreal experience and thrill like I have never had before. Seeing the landscape from that high up was breathtaking and doesn’t even compare to just flying on a plane. I think that our time in Cairns was well spent and I would recommend it to any tourists in Australia.

Yesterday I traveled back home to Sydney and tomorrow I start my internship with UPS and the second half our program gets underway.
