Cooking Up Memories

This week was focused on saving space for moments of peace amidst a busy schedule. One of the highlights was visiting the Gardens by the Bay, not once, but twice. My first visit was with a group of friends from the program, and we had a great time exploring the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome. But it was the second visit that truly stood out to me. One of my friends sadly had complications and wasn’t able to continue the program so she was leaving this weekend. Therefore, our group of friends decided to go back with her, so she […]

Food, Food and Work🏢🍜🍗

Just like the title said, this week has been my ultimate foodie week! Even though work has been busier than ever, I made sure to explore Singapore’s vibrant food culture every day. After work, I’d meet up with friends to try out new spots, and one of our highlights was a visit to HiNoodle in Somerset. I had their handmade noodles in a spicy pickled fish soup, and it exceeded all my expectations with its rich, tangy flavor. The next stop was the famous Hey Tea, where I enjoyed a perfectly balanced mango grapefruit tea that was refreshingly flavorful and […]

Week 4 in Singapore – Matthew Lee

Singaporean Cooking Class This weekend, Bucknell students had the opportunity to learn to cook a Singaporean dish called, Laksa. Laksa is a type of soup noodle with a spicy broth and other toppings such as: fish cakes, egg, fried tofu, and prawns. Learning how to make this dish was more complicated than it seemed to the eye initially. There were a lot of meticulous steps that needed to be taken. To make the broth, we had to cut up peppers and other vegetables and then combine it with spices. When everything was mixed together, we had to use a mortar […]

Week 11 in Singapore – John Rodgers

Another week has passed in Singapore; this is the first weekend I haven’t traveled. The week in Singapore was normal, I had a busy week because we had to complete the first phase of a project to onboard a new FP&A software. With this comes a lot of data validation and data mapping. It’s a very tedious process that takes a lot of work, but learning the intricacies of financial models and how to manipulate them is very interesting. I look forward to learning more. Dinner with team This week, my boss introduced me to this coffee place near work, […]

From Trials and Errors to Gardens by the Bay: My Third Week in the Little Red Dot

Trials and Errors My third week of internship was very busy. I finished my first campaign! Now that it’s done, it’s a big sigh of relief. I must admit that my big trial and error was British English, which is very different from American English. Words I never imagined could have an “s” instead of a “z” do. I had to really pay attention to detail to adjust to the requirements needed to market to a Singaporean target audience. It took me back to International Marketing, which I took back in Sydney. One of the most frequent themes (Sienna and […]

Week 12 Blog

This week in Singapore brought a slower pace, but it was still full of meaningful learning experiences. After wrapping up the on-site audit last week, I transitioned to working more closely with the ESG team. It’s been refreshing to focus on something different and it exposed me to a different side of audit that emphasizes sustainability and long-term impact. My primary tasks included building flowcharts and doing some cross-referencing across multiple sustainability reports. Even though this was routine work, I found the work surprisingly insightful. Each company’s report told a different story; some focused on carbon and Greenhouse Gas emissions, […]
