This week at my internship, I had the chance to participate in Power BI training–something I had been looking forward to since I first heard how we would incorporate data analytics into internal audit. The training mainly focused on how Power BI can be used in audit engagements, and it was amazing to see how efficiently we could sort and visualize using interactive dashboards. I am excited to keep learning and exploring this tool and hopefully apply it to upcoming projects. On Wednesday, I attended a Bucknell alumni event, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the […]
At work this week, I had the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of climate-related financial disclosures. This topic is becoming more and more relevant in today’s corporate world. My main task this week was to draft two newsletters: one focusing on climate-related risks that companies face, and the other on the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) regulations and their effects on SGX-listed companies. Researching and writing these newsletters taught me a lot about how regularly bodies are pushing for more transparency in how companies report on sustainability. I didn’t realize […]
This week in Singapore brought a slower pace, but it was still full of meaningful learning experiences. After wrapping up the on-site audit last week, I transitioned to working more closely with the ESG team. It’s been refreshing to focus on something different and it exposed me to a different side of audit that emphasizes sustainability and long-term impact. My primary tasks included building flowcharts and doing some cross-referencing across multiple sustainability reports. Even though this was routine work, I found the work surprisingly insightful. Each company’s report told a different story; some focused on carbon and Greenhouse Gas emissions, […]
This past week in Singapore was rewarding and eye-opening, especially in terms of my internship experience. Thursday was a return to the office for basic training, where we dove deeper into the fundamentals of internal auditing. Even though we had a training session first day at work, this session clarified internal audit’s role in risk management and how it can improve business performance. I realized how critical internal audits are in identifying inefficiencies and ensuring compliance, which made me appreciate the work we had been doing for the past two weeks. Friday was a particularly exciting day, as we wrapped […]

This past week marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my study abroad as I started my long-awaited internship at BDO in Singapore as an Internal Audit and Risk Advisory Intern. From the very first day, I realized that this experience would be both exciting and challenging. On Monday, the other interns and I received a warm welcome at the office. We were given a brief tour of the office and they introduced us to the company culture. Shortly after, we underwent training sessions to get a better understanding of our roles as interns. We then made a […]
