Final week in Sydney / First Half of Spring Break

This past week was our final week in Sydney. It was amazing how fast our time went. From classes, to spending time at the beach, to seeing the bustling metropolitan area of the inner city, the time went so quick (as it always does). My final week of classes went well and I truly enjoyed learning about the Australian way of life in Aussie life and culture as well as the political landscape of this region of the world in contemporary politics. After packing up all of our things on Saturday morning we heading to the airport for a trip […]

Week 7

This past week was our final full week in Sydney. It is a bittersweet reality as I have truly enjoyed my time here. It has been a fantastic experience getting to see the Australian culture and experience it for an extended period of time. The highlight of my week was attending an opera house Symphony. The event was Simone young conducts Manlers third Symphony. While we had already done a tour of the Opera house with the GAV program, we had not seen any shows or performances in the Opera house. We figured this weekend would be the last chance […]

Week 6

This week we took a weekend trip to the hunter valley region near Newcastle and got to experience the local wineries. It was a great experience and we got to try different wines and learn about the area and the history of wine making in Australia. We went to 3 different wineries over the course of 2 days. The first winery was a very modern winery with a connected restaurant area. We had a great guide Henry who was very knowledgeable and provided us with a great experience. The second winery was much more boutique and smaller scale but offered […]

Week 5 In Sydney

This past week was another great time in sunny Sydney. While back at school my fellow Bucknellians were dealing with Snow and freezing rain, we were lucky enough to have good weather for the week. It was great to start our second set or block or classes with good weather. Having a different set of classes makes my routine a little different and avoids things becoming stagnant. Overall the start to my new classes has been great. Also this past week we got to experience the super bowl in a different country. Being from Philadelphia I was hoping for an […]

Week 4 in Australia

This past week we were on the move again. As a part of our program, we had the privilege of spending the weekend in Melbourne. It was a fantastic experience being able to visit the capital of the southeastern state of Victoria. With a population of around 5 million people, it was certainly a large metropolitan area. We started our weekend stay with a walking tour of the downtown area or the central business district (CBD) as the locals call it. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided us with a very insightful tour. Following the tour my roommate […]

Week 3

This past week we were lucky enough to experience more fantastic summertime weather. My roommates and I looked to enjoy this beautiful weather by heading down to the Royal botanic garden of sydney. It was a majestic garden/preserved area right in downtown sydney which ran parallel to the to the harbor and bordered the Opera house. I really enjoyed seeing the various plants and wildlife the gardens had to offer. All except the giant spider I saw climbing from the top of the tree towards me. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture before it moved out of sight but it […]
