Week 9 Last week in Australia

Now that I’ve been in Cairns for about a week, the weather is starting to grow on me, just a little . I still sweat really easily and have to be in shorts constantly to avoid overheating. Everything else has been going well. The food here is a bit more expensive than I imagined, but still way cheaper than it was in the U.S. I went out with a couple of buddies after dinner to explore the city, and the Night Market was packed with different vendors and food centers. There were cosmetic stores, art displays, massage parlors, souvenir shops, […]

Week 8 Cairns

This week has been quite busy, as it was the last week of classes. I had to write two essays and take a final exam for my international finance class. I definitely spent too much time studying international finance, and the exam was way too easy. I rewarded myself with a loaf of curry bread near UTS after I finished my exam. The most stressful part of this week was packing up and getting ready to leave Sydney. I will miss reliable transportation, cheap food, and the beaches nearby. The plane ride to Cairns didn’t take too long, and I […]

Week 7: Eventish week

This week has been a roller coaster. I woke up one day to sip some water and felt a pain in my throat. Being sick while in Australia is awful and I am very grateful that my mom snuck a ziplock bag with 3 sleeves of dayquil and nyquil. The only way to get through a bad cold is through rest and LOTS of soup. I took some time to rest and had alot of soup. Me being sick was the perfect excuse to go to my local Vietnamese restaurant and eat some Pho. This week I tried the beef […]

Week 6 Time in Hunter valley

This week has been a rollercoaster. My international finance class assigned both a quiz and an assignment so I did not have as much free time as I would have liked to. But during the weekend I was able to take some time off and enjoy the school trip. On our bus ride to the winery, we came across this little antique shop that had an assortment of items. I saw some vintage records, coffins, crystals, and a bunch of handcrafted goods. The food in the area could have been a little bit better but I was able to make […]

Week 5 -New classes

This week has been very exciting. I am starting my international finance class and my politics class. Both of which have been very interesting and I am enjoying the change in pace. I was assigned a presentation that is due in week 6 which is kind of a drag. But It is a presentation about food and I ended up choosing Pho for my topic. I am doing some research on the historical facts, the origin, and the regional differences on the this. This does also give me the perfect excuse to go eat it a couple times so I […]

Exploring Melbourne

This week I got to explore Melbourne, and it was filled with excitement. While the hotel was not as great as the Meriton, it was still an amazing experience. We did a walking tour, which ended up being way more interesting than I expected. I learned a lot about the Gold Rush and how some of the buildings are made with real gold just because of how much there was. We saw some Victorian style architecture, and it was interesting to see the unique patterns that came with it. Seeing the Victorian style housing in a city was interesting. Being […]
