Week 13 in Singapore – John Rodgers

Another week has passed in Singapore, and not much has changed. I have been working on creating dashboards for the CFO and CEO for financial analysis. I have been onboarding all the data onto the new platform, Datarails, and am now creating tools for economic analysis. It is interesting because this is precisely what I learned in my Accounting Analytics and Data Visualization classes. I have been doing a lot of data mapping and validation to accounting analytics. Now, I am creating many visual tools like bar charts, line charts, etc., which apply to my Data Visualization course. This is […]

Going “home” for the weekend

This weekend I was blessed to be able to return to Sydney, my favorite place in the world (that I’ve been to so far). My family was coming over to this side of the world to visit me for the next few weeks, not wanting to travel so far without seeing Australia, so they planned to fly into there. My dad and I secretly booked a flight for me to meet up with them in Sydney for the weekend, and they are joining me in Auckland for the remainder of their trip. The intention was for me to surprise my […]

Week 13 in Sydney

This past weekend was packed with fun and lots of adrenaline. It started with a relaxed cookout at Coogee Beach, where the beachside barbecue vibes and the amazing view made for the perfect Friday evening. The Aussie beach culture really stood out—public BBQs are everywhere, and people actually use them. It’s such a laid-back, communal vibe compared to the U.S., where grilling often feels like more of a delivery system of a meal. At Coogee, the mix of locals and travelers sharing the space gave it a welcoming, community-driven feel that’s uniquely Australian. Saturday brought the action with an early […]

Week 13: British people, KBBQ, and Slingshots

I keep forgetting how cheap it is to get food from restaurants rather than cooking, which I am finding very ironic. In America, it is more expensive to order food or to eat at restaurants vs. making your own food, but I always seemed to order food more when I am at Bucknell or even at home. Yet since I have been here, I have been cooking more and more compared to when I am in America. Hopefully, I keep this habit when I go back but I need to keep trying these unique dishes for while I am still […]

Minions, Memories, and Meaning: Garden By The Bay.

There are moments in life that gently absorb themselves into your soul — my final day in Singapore was one of them. As I walked through Gardens by the Bay, sharing quiet, meaningful moments with friends who had become like family, I felt a tender mix of gratitude and sadness settle in my chest. The cityscape glittered behind us, the Supertrees stood tall like silent guardians of our memories, and for a moment, time slowed down. This final day wasn’t about sightseeing or checking places off a list. It was about bonding — real, soul-stirring bonding. The kind where silence […]

Fighting the heat

This week was a refreshing change of pace, I got an extra day off, which meant more time to explore new foods and enjoy the city. Work has been about the same, but I’ve been making the most of my lunch breaks by checking out more spots near Lavender Station. One of my best discoveries was Mixue (蜜雪冰城), a well-known Chinese ice cream chain famous for its affordable drinks and ice cream. I grabbed a matcha ice cream cone for just $1.50, kicking off my week on a high note. Matcha prices have been skyrocketing in the U.S., so I’m […]
