Week 14 in Singapore – John Rodgers

It’s crazy how it’s already been 14 weeks abroad, I can’t believe how quickly it’s gone by. This week was another great one, I decided to explore a little more of Singapore because I only have a couple weeks left here. On Wednesday, Bucknell hosted a Singapore alumni event. This was a great opportunity to network with Bucknellians who now work in Singapore. I talked to most of the alumnis and asked everyone why they chose to move to Singapore. I was curious to know everyone’s story of how they ended up here and it was nice to hear their […]

Gratitude & Growth: Reflections from Australia, Cairns, and Singapore

As I sit back to reflect on the last few weeks of my journey across Australia, Cairns, and Singapore, my heart is full — not just with memories, but with deep gratitude and also unsettled feelings. I am, if not the only student that really had a roller coaster on this study abroad and I would not say that it did not bother me at all, it did. There were times I felt left out not because my school excluded me, or the students around me, I did feel that way because I had limited options based on my passport […]

Sitting out in the sun

This week has been one of the best yet. I have an interview next week with a big accounting firm, and I crushed an interview on Friday. Hoping that I hear back form my interviews soon so I can stop stressing out about my summer.  On Wednesday, I wandered into a shopping mall and unexpectedly stumbled upon a keyboard store selling all kinds of novelty mechanical keyboards. I’ve been searching for something memorable to take home from this trip, and I finally settled on a wooden mechanical keyboard with a cool design. The keys aren’t too clicky or loud, and […]

Living the Island live 🏖️🌊

Work started off a little more hectic than usual. One of our Singaporean intern friends is heading off this week, so a lot of tasks had to be passed on to me and Lauren. It’s been a bit of a handover marathon, but we’re managing! One of the highlights of my work week was learning how to file Financial Statements (FS) for submission to the Singaporean government. It’s part of the audit and compliance process, and there’s a special system we need to install in Excel in order to validate and upload the documents directly to ACRA (the local authority). […]

Weathering Singapore, Wandering Bintan

This past week’s events unfolded in a series of distinctly different acts marked most indubitably by a dramatic shift in climate that mirrored a mental pivot from beachside ease to urban intensity. A fitting metaphorical reflection for a week that balanced formidable professional challenges with rest, reflection, and unexpected drama due in full to my accidental participation in a monsoon survival challenge. The first act was set firmly in the world of legal structuring and startup logistics. I spent the week drafting founder’s agreements, managing share transfer filings, assisting with entity setup, tasks that were an excellent lesson in legal […]

A Soft Reset In Bintan

This past week pushed me out of my comfort zone and into new experiences that genuinely shifted my perspective. Between navigating unfamiliar places, trying new activities, and adapting to different cultural norms, I left Bintan feeling a little more open-minded and a lot more appreciative of life. We spent the long weekend in Bintan, just a short one-hour ferry ride from Singapore. Right off the bat, even before we boarded the ferry, Bianca was giving me a full pep talk on all the “unofficial” rules of the trip. The main one being how important it was to rush to the […]
